Parka Insurances

Tell us about your business

We provide advice on personal insurances – this includes Life, Health, Income Protection and Trauma insurances. We work with all the major NZ insurers to find you the best policies that fit within your budget. Most importantly we work for you – and we help you at claim time.

What is your WHY?

My own Dad died suddenly aged 46 and I have seen the financial impact of this (even though my parents had good life insurance they day to day bills of raising four kids without a main income earner was still enormous). I want to make sure families have the cover in place that protects what they have worked so hard to create.

What brought you to this point in your career?

I studied Law and then decided I preferred hospo once I graduated! I found middle ground in Advertising and Sales and ended up doing Business Development for companies. I was then approached to join the Insurance Industry as an Adviser and have been doing this for the past four years.

What is the best thing about owning your own business?

The flexibility! And I am responsible for my reputation.

What is the hardest part?

Keeping up with compliance, and trying to maintain healthy levels of revenue streams.

What do you do when you’re lacking motivation?

Go for a run and listen to a podcast.

How do you manage the juggle?

Not very well! (Being the Chairperson of the School PTA also doesn’t help with the juggle)

How does MIB Networking impact your business?

I have built strong relationships with the women in my group and have received a number of referrals and business from the group. They are strong advocates of how I conduct my business and a big help on Social Media.

Tell us two little known facts about you:

1. I lived in NYC and worked in a bar when I was 21. We lived in a Manhattan apartment and got paid $3 US an hour base rate.
2. I love food – but don’t like Oysters.

What are you passionate about?

Good service (a standout randomly is the Prawn Park in Taupo!), travel, gift buying and finding the perfect present.

Who do you admire?

My husband is pretty awesome!

Will you still be doing this in 10 years?

Good question – hopefully retired early in ten years playing golf and travelling again!

How can we reach you?
