Tell us about your business:

I am a life coach and counsellor specialising in anxiety and depression, and helping people identify and work through their challenges to create their best life. I usually find people are not upset, angry, stressed or depressed for the reason they think they are, and by uncovering the true cause of their challenge they can quickly achieve change. Most of my work is one-to-one counselling but I also run classes in the community (‘Overcoming Anxiety, Stress & Depression’ etc) and stress management workshops for corporate clients.

What is your WHY?

I just hate seeing people miserable. Especially when so much of our misery is generated by our own self-talk and self-limitations.

What brought you to this point in your career?

I used to be a business analyst but through my own journey of self-help and healing I studied coaching and was blown away by the rapid change achieved. I then studied to help others as a life-coach, then did my counselling qualification to support the other work.

What is the best thing about owning your own business?

My own schedule! This week I will also plan to spend time with my grand-daughter, and if the weather clears, time in my garden.

What is the hardest part?

Keeping up with the admin of marketing. Marketing and networking are critical to keeping a flow of new clients and I do love doing both but I need to stay right on top of the planning or things get forgotten and missed.

What do you do when you’re lacking motivation?

Put ‘it’ in the diary. If it’s not in the diary it won’t happen.

How do you manage the juggle?

Diarising. Everything has to be allocated a date and time. Absolutely everything. If it’s not in the diary it won’t happen. Even ‘Groceries’ has a time slot between clients.

How does MIB Networking impact your business?

Networking is crucial to any business but working so closely and privately as I do with my clients it is even more important. Over time the members get to know me, hear how I work, develop a picture of what I do. They may then feel confident referring me (if they feel I would be a good fit) even if they have not seen me privately as a client.

Tell us two little known facts about you:

1. My children were both prem, one born tiny at 28 weeks with a considerable hospital stay.
2. I am a textile artist exhibiting nationally and internationally.

What are you passionate about?

Helping mums ‘heal’. “If mumma ain’t happy, ain’t no-one happy.”

Who do you admire?

Oprah Winfrey – she used her platform to create real change in the world. My two girls, who have both overcome adversity in their own ways.

Will you still be doing this in 10 years?

In some capacity – my dream is to create a ‘healing retreat’ where someone can come for several days of in-depth self-development and healing.
